A power grid, a water network, or a continuous process plant cannot pause for a software update, and the operator on shift cannot be handed a dashboard designed for a boardroom. Digital control systems are the part of IT that has to be right the first time: deterministic timing, redundant controllers, protocol gateways to equipment built decades apart, alarms that keep the one alert that matters visible, and an audit trail behind every control action. It is also where AI now earns its place, in anomaly detection and predictive maintenance that a fixed alarm limit will never catch.
